Katherine Jenkins is to encourage the sale of charity supplies in her role as an ambassador.

Welsh soprano Katherine Jenkins is to encourage the sale of fundraising products after becoming ambassador for one of the UK's biggest charities.

The acclaimed vocalist will join celebrities including Fearne Cotton, George Michael, Kay Burley and Martin Clunes in helping to raise awareness of MacMillan Cancer Support.

Her duties will include encouraging the sale of charity products and the singer revealed a big factor in her decision to take on the role was that her father, Selwyn, died of cancer when she was 15.

The 29-year-old said that she and her sister Laura have worked tirelessly to fill collection boxes for the organisation, explaining: "It's a great honour to have been asked and I look forward to helping the charity as much as possible."

Meanwhile, Jenkins recently completed a ten km run for the Kidney Wales Foundation and revealed that she had managed to fill the charity's collection boxes with over £35,000.ADNFCR-2506-ID-19444438-ADNFCR
