Struggling dog charity urges public to fill collection boxes

A boxer dog charity is urging the public to fill its collection boxes so the organisation can continue caring for abandoned and neglected animals.
An organisation which re-homes unwanted boxer dogs has asked the public to fill collection boxes in order to solve a funding crisis.
Boxer Welfare Scotland, which is based in Peterhead, said the credit crunch has led to more boxer dogs being abandoned or neglected and it is now struggling to look after the many animals in its care without extra funding.
Karen Cox, trustee of the organisation, said donations to its collection boxes may be the only way that the charity can contine rescuing and nursing boxer dogs.
"More and more dogs have been coming in and less people are applying for boxers. We want to keep helping but may not be here soon - we need donations to keep going," she told the BBC.
The charity was established in 2005 and has so far helped to re-home over 370 boxer dogs through public donations and the sale of fundraising merchandise, such as calendars, greeting cards and promotional quality badges.
